Lexus has recorded the fastest ever time for a road-registered series production car games  at Germany's infamous Nürburgring Nordschleife.

Piloted by LFA race and test driver Akira Iida, and with no modifications over the production model, the limited production LFA lapped the 22km circuit in 7:14.64. The car even used standard tyres -- Bridgestone Potenza RE070 – the same fitted to the standard road-going LFA.

Soon to enter production, the LFA Nürburgring package is limited to just 500 units worldwide. Each includes a carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) front spoiler and fixed rear wing to enhance aerodynamic performance, track-tuned suspension and bespoke alloy wheels.

Output is raised to 8kW to 420 to counteract the increased drag coefficient from its "unique downforce package".

"Since 2004 in the spring and summer of every year we have conducted development tests for the LFA at Nürburgring Nordschleife," said LFA head engineer, Haruhiko Tanahashi.

"The LFA Nürburgring package is the compilation of our extensive testing program and we have appreciated the opportunities to utilise the Nürburgring Nordschleife to strengthen and develop the LFA into the vehicle it is today.

"The development team's obsession, Iida-san's concentration and good course conditions all led to achieving this record," concluded Tanahashi-san.
